Nikolaos Frantzeskakis wins the Lynne Rienner Best Dissertation Award for his dissertation titled "Speaking of Home: Local Representation and Re-Election in Africa"

This workshop takes place over two days: September 12 - 13 at the University of Minnesota. Both sessions meet from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM CST. Lunch will be provided. Virtual attendance is possible.

With deep sadness, we share that our esteemed colleague, Nicolas van de Walle (Cornell University), passed away on July 15, 2024. Nic was one of the most highly regarded and accomplished members of our community. In addition to leaving a legacy in the field of African politics, Nic will be remembered as a kind, generous, and dedicated person.

Winner: Sean Paul Ashley (Harvard University), for his paper, “Born Strong: Wartime Institutions and the Durability of Rebel Regimes.”

Winner: Joan Ricart-Huguet (Loyola University Maryland), for the article  “Why do Different Cultures Form and Persist? Learning from the Case of Makerere University.”

Winner: Melanie Phillips (UC Berkeley), for her dissertation, “Gendered Gatekeepers: Barriers to Women in Party-Controlled Candidate Selection.”
